Now in Stock: Tortuga 1950

Wrapper: Mexican Maduro
Filler: Panama, Peru, Honduras
Binder: Nicaraguan Jungle

If you remember, earlier this week we posted a review on the Tortuga 1948. That cigar was more on the milder side with a strong creamy flavor profile. We can tell this one is going to be on the other side of the spectrum.

Appearance:

The maduro wrapper on this cigar looks like a dark chocolate candy bar. The wrapper is smooth throughout but the cap was a little rough. The cap was also slightly darker than the rest of the cigar. There were no thick veins visible by the appearance. There was also a nice sweet smell coming from this cigar.

Construction:

This cigar is perfectly solid throughout. The burn pattern was perfectly even throughout the entire cigar. The draw was very easy with little to no resistance. The smoke produced was very thick and gave off a strong earthy aroma.

Flavor:

As we lit these cigars up we noticed a strong chocolate flavor immediately. As the cigar progressed some of the chocolate tones mellowed and allowed the earthiness to take over. As the earthy tones picked up, some of wood tones started to form. The creaminess picked up after about an inch of this cigar was burned. Towards the halfway point, the combination of cream and wood coated out palates.

As we passed the halfway mark the profile became fairly leathery. The wood tones lessened a the chocolate sweetness moved to the draw. Throughout the remainder of this cigar the wood and earth tones were prominent. The finish was pretty good with a ton of flavor in each puff.

Overall:

If the 1948 seemed a little too mild for you, thy this one. This cigar is a medium to full bodied smoke with some serious sweetness. Keep an eye out for the Limited Edition 2011 review coming soon.

Thank you,
