Facing of the Week: E.P. Carrillo Core Line Maduro Club 52 (Review)

Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf
Filler: Nicaraguan and Dominican
Binder: Ecuadorian Sumatra

To be completely honest, we really like the cigars that E.P. Carrillo puts out. You may recall that a couple months back we featured the Dark Rituals, we enjoyed that cigar so much that we brought in a bunch of new cigars from them.

Appearance:

This cigar features a very dark brown Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The leaf itself is freckled with some darker areas. The wrapper has a nice and oily shine to it as well. The cap is perfectly flush and is composed of three layers. There are a few veins running through this cigar, but none are thick enough to affect the cigar. There is also a sweet chocolate smell coming from this cigar.

Construction:

As far as the construction on this cigar goes, it was perfect. The cigar was solid throughout with not a single soft spot. There cigar was smooth all the way across. The ash was a medium shade of gray and evenly layered. The burn was perfectly straight from beginning to end. The draw was very easy and produced a very thick, white smoke.

Flavor:

At first there was a strong pepper flavor, but after a few puffs there were some strong notes of wood and coffee that came out. Then out of nowhere, there was a nice nuttiness that formed. We were only a half-inch into this cigar and the complexity was amazing.

As the cigar progressed the pepper mellowed and the coffee flavor picked up. As we entered the second third the woodiness and coffee flavors were the main focus. The pepper that was remaining was sitting in the back of our throats.

Halfway through there was a strong leather flavor that came out that remained through the finish of this cigar. The pepper also picked up again on the finish. The coffee and leather flavors were their strongest in the last inch and a half.

Overall:

What a fantastic cigar. All of the flavors worked perfectly together. There was a good amount of complexity, and the construction was flawless. We only have a couple boxes of these, but they have been going quickly. Come in and try this medium to full bodied cigar today.

Thank you,

The Xhale Lounge Crew
