Cigar of the Week: Illusione Epernay (Review)

Wrapper: Sun grown Corojo ’99 (Rosado)Filler: Nicaraguan
Binder: Nicaraguan

We are featuring the Illusione Epernay this week because it is one of our personal favorite cigars. But remember, if the Epernay doesn't sound like the cigar for you, we have many other Illusione cigars. We also carry the 88, 888, MJ-12, MJ-12 Maduro, and several others.

Appearance:
As we looked over this cigar, we noticed just how perfect it looked. The wrapper was a medium brown shade and perfectly smooth. There didn't seem to be one single vein that would cause a problem with the burn pattern.  Upon further inspection, we noticed that there was a nice earthy smell coming from the cigar.

Construction:
As we looked at how this cigar was constructed, we noticed how solid the stick was. There was not one area throughout the cigar that was softer than anywhere else. The cap was consisted of multiple layers that all were placed perfectly flush. The burn was perfectly even all the way through and the draw was effortless. The smoke was plentiful and very creamy throughout.

Flavor:
As soon as this cigar was lit up we noticed a nice mild spice that slowly picked up. The flavors quickly opened up with some strong earthy notes. Once we got down about an inch of this cigar, the flavors seemed to pop a little bit more. We started ro get some strong wood notes coming through.

As this cigar progressed, the spice seemed to dull out a little bit. Once this happened, the cigar became a solid medium bodied smoke. The wood notes became much more prominent as well.

Right around the halfway point of this cigar the flavor smoke became pretty sweet. The sweet undertones accented the wood and earth tones perfectly. The sweetness was a chocolate and sugar combination, so this helped to dilute the spice a little bit as well.

Once we got down to the final third, we noticed some coffee notes coming through. These coffee notes complimented the earthiness perfectly. The finishing flavors were absolutely amazing and very smooth. The notes of earth and wood stayed strong throughout the majority of this cigar but, it was accent notes that really do it for this cigar.

Overall:
Just so you all know, we have a ton of these in stock. They come in boxes of 50, but they are going fast. When you come in, be sure to pick up one of these cigars and give it a try.

Thank you,

The Xhale Lounge Crew
